SBVC Presses Advantage to Beat Copper Mountain

When it comes to basketball, nothing brings a crowd alive more than a run-and-gun, high-scoring affair.

But sometimes, it takes a strong defense to get things done.

The San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team used a suffocating defense in the second half Saturday to pull away from Copper Mountain for a 65-51 Inland Empire Athletic Conference victory.

SBVC's defense forced 21 turnovers from the Fighting Cacti - 12 of them in the second half when Copper Mountain only made 29.2 percent of its shots from the field. The strong second half push allowed the Wolverines to widen its lead to as much as 20 points in the second half.

Jason Lee led the way for the Wolverines in the game, scoring a game-high 24 points - including going 4-of-9 from three-point range. He also picked up six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the game. Michael Miller was the only other SBVC player to finish in double figures in points, scoring 11. Chine Nwanevu pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

Luke George led Copper Mountain with 20 points.

SBVC hits the road Wednesday to take on College of the Desert in a game that will be streamed online on the College of the Desert Athletics Facebook page - as no spectators will be allowed at the game. The Wolverines return home for a pair of crucial games, starting Saturday against Chaffey, before hosting Mt. San Jacinto a week from Wednesday.
