The opening five minutes of Friday night's men's basketball game between San Bernardino Valley and Compton Colleges saw the teams struggling to find the net.
SBVC opened the scoring 1:43 into the game, then didn't double its lead until the 5:08 mark. But that basket helped the Wolverines get on track, as they scored the game's first eight points before opening a 11-point lead at the half. In the second half, the offense picked up the pace, as SBVC defeated Compton 93-68 in the opening round of the Alvin Hunter Classic.
The second half was a different story for the Wolverines' offense, as SBVC shot 54.3 percent from the field in the second 20 minutes. Michael Miller caught fire for SBVC, scoring 17 of his game-high 21 in the second half.
Meanwhile, Sylis Grey came off the bench for the Wolverines to score 19 points (on 6-of-8 shooting) and pull down a team-high seven rebounds. Chine Nwanevu added 12 points and six rebounds, while Jason Lee and Kenyani Lee each scored 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting.
Compton was led by Jordan English with 18 points off the bench, while Jake TenBerge had 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds and Malvin Payero added 13 points.
