Defense Steps Up in Second Half to Stop Rams

In the 2022-23 men's basketball campaign, it has become a somewhat common theme for San Bernardino Valley College. At the start of the second half, the Wolverines find another gear.

It was the same Wednesday night, as SBVC picked up its defensive pressure, started forcing turnovers, and then turning those turnovers into points, as the Wolverines beat Victor Valley College 81-51 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play.

The victory clinched the second consecutive IEAC championship for SBVC.

The Wolverines went into the break only up by five against the Rams. And Victor Valley closed the gap to three two minutes into the second half. But SBVC went on a 18-2 run over the next six minutes to pull away and put the game out of reach.

Helping the Wolverines' cause was the defense, as they forced 31 Victor Valley turnovers in the game, while only committing six.

It was another big night for Dominique Daniels, who led SBVC with 29 points - 21 in the first half - while adding seven assists. Armon Muldrew came on in the second half, finishing the game with 20 points and six assists of his own. And Aamari Smith finished with 13 points, six rebounds and six steals for SBVC.

Victor Valley was led by Blake Goodro, who had 23 points.
