SBVC Men’s Basketball shoots down the Seahawks, 57-53

SBVC (30-2) moved forward in the CCCAA SoCal Regionals after a back-and-fourth game that saw the home side down late, but a 10-2 run the final six minutes of the game sealed the win over the #14 seed Wilmington Los Angeles Harbor Seahawks (16-11), 57-53.

SBVC will host the #11 seed Culver City West Los Angeles Oilers (17-8) on Wednesday, March 4th at 7 p.m. Tickets for the game are set by the California Community College Athletic Association and are set at $10 for adults, $7 students, faculty, senior citizens and children under 12. No passes except those approved by CCCAA will be accepted.

Leading the way for SBVC was sophomore starting guard Todd Lewis (Pasadena H.S.) who collected a key double-double, leading the team with 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting and going 2 for 5 from beyond the arc, along with grabbing 10 boards.

Sophomore starting guard Charles Callison (Moreno Valley Canyon Springs) put up 13 points on 5 of 15 shooting and sophomore starting guard Khleem Perkins (San Bernardino H.S.) added 10 points on 3 of 8 shooting, going a perfect 4 for 4 from the free throw line.

SBVC did take a two-point halftime lead, 24-22, but that lead should have been larger as SBVC only shot 50% (5-10) from the charity stripe in the first half. The free throw shooting percentage jumped in the second half, as SBVC shot 92.3% (12-13) from the line in the second half.
