SBVC Men’s Basketball falls in SoCal Finals, 53-32

SBVC (31-3) had an impressive run as Foothill Conference Champions, along the way collecting the Conference MVP award and Conference Coach of the Year award, along with a 20 game winning streak, all of which came down to one game at the Mission Viejo Saddleback Gauchos (31-2), falling short, 53-32.

A return trip to the CCCAA State Finals was up for grabs as SBVC arrived at Saddleback with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove after demolishing West L.A. in the previous round. The Gauchos brought a raucous crowd into "The Brummel Dome" with most of their student athletes from other sports in attendance, adorned with special t-shirt and they were loud.

The atmosphere was electric, but on the biggest stage of the season so far, SBVC wilted, shooting 22.9% (11-48) from the field and only grabbing 29 boards. The SBVC defense was outstanding, holding a normally potent offense to only 40.5% (17-42) shooting and clamping down on the Orange Empire MVP, only allowing him two points. But the Gauchos grabbed their rebounds (40) and were a deadly 72.2% (13-18) from the free throw line.

SBVC was led by Foothill Conference MVP, sophomore guard Charles Callison (Moreno Valley Canyon Springs), with 16 points on 7 of 15 shooting and sophomore guard Khleem Perkins (San Bernardino H.S.) grabbed 10 total boards.
