SBVC Men’s Basketball headed back to SoCal Finals with win over #11 Wildcats, 70-51

SBVC (31-2) continues to roll through the playoffs as the first half shooting was bad for both teams, but after the halftime break the home side stepped up and shot 60.7% burying the Culver City West Los Angeles Wildcats (18-9), 70-51.

This Saturday, March 7th at 7 p.m., SBVC will travel to Mission Viejo to take on the #2 seeded Saddleback Gauchos (30-2).

The first half was sluggish as neither team really caught a rhythm, SBVC shot 36.4% (8-22) and West L.A. shot 34.6% (9-26), but both teams went into halftime tied at 23-23. The second half is when the game started to get lopsided, as SBVC went on a 15-4 run in the first five minutes of the half. Later in the second half SBVC went on a 22-3 run and put the game out of reach. With 3:53 left in the game SBVC had built a 27-point lead, 67-40, eventually winning the game by 19 points.

Leading the way for SBVC was sophomore forward Kyle Benton (Long Beach St. Anthony) who had 21 points, shooting 10 of 13 from the free throw line and sophomore guard Charles Callison (Moreno Valley Canyon Springs) added 14 points on 6 of 14 shooting. Sophomore guard Todd Lewis (Pasadena H.S.) contributed 11 points on 4 of 8 shooting, including 2 for 2 from beyond the arc and sophomore forward Dominique Wilson (Kansas City, KS Washington) had 11 boards in the victory.
