SBVC Opens Conference With Pair of Victories

The San Bernardino Valley College women's volleyball team opened Inland Empire Athletic Conference play with back-to-back victories over College of the Desert and Copper Mountain College.

SBVC opened the win against COD quickly, pounding out a 25-7 victory in the opening set, thanks to a series of long runs on offense. Manaia Mamea opened at the service line, and the Wolverines quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Then, with a 9-4 lead, Lolelelei Mamea took her turn, and she led the Wolverines on a 12-0 run to take a 21-4 lead. Lole ended the game with seven aces, many of which came on this series.

Desert rallied in the second game, having a chance to serve for the win at 24-23, but the Wolverines took the next three points to take the second set. After the shaky second game, SBVC picked up the intensity and were able to dispatch the Roadrunners, 25-18.

SBVC converted 43 percent of their attacks in the game, with Lole Mamea scoring 17 kills to go with her seven aces, while Manaia Mamea was 10 of 20 hitting, with no errors in the match.
