Coyotes Sidestep Wolverines with Late Rally

The San Bernardino Valley College women's volleyball team attempted a late rally, but could not overcome two early set losses as the Wolverines lost their Pacific Coast Athletic Conference crossover match to Cuyamaca 25-18, 25-7, 27-25 at SBVC on Wednesday.

The Coyotes (2-21) won a competitive first game, as both teams traded the lead several times. But in the end, Cuyamaca pulled away to win by seven. In the second set, the Coyotes put the Wolverines into an early hole that they could not dig out from.

In the third, it was the Wolverines (2-19) coming out early to build an advantage. They started the set with a 5-0 lead, and were able to keep a solid advantage for most of the set. But San Bernardino Valley ran out of gas, as the Coyotes closed out the match in the third set.

Savanna Aguilar led the way for the Wolverines with 11 kills in th egame. Libero Maggie Raygoza was solid on defense for San Bernardino Valley, picking up 21 digs in the match, while Christa Chase and Destany Alvarez each had 11 digs as well. Alvarez had 21 assists as setter, while adding three kills of her own.

The Wolverines will close out their season with another crossover game, this time against Southwestern, at a site to be determined.
