
After two weeks away from competition, the San Bernardino Valley College track and field team returned to action at the Pasadena City College Invitational, competing against other schools from the region.
Sophomore Sara Jaquez continued her strong spring season, finishing third in the 400 meters with a time of 1 minute, 2.67 seconds – the 10th fastest time in school history.
Alliyah Leon won her heat in the 800 meters, posting a personal best time of 2:49.15. Emma Fierro also posted a personal best at the event, finishing the 1500 meters with a tim of 5:56.41, good for sixth place.
Freshman Liliana Wilson finished 13th in her two solo events, posting a time of 13.61 in the 100, and 27.56 in the 200. Jessie Espinoza finished right behind in the 100 meters, posting atime of 13.63 seconds.
Wilson, Espinoza, Jaquez, and Zailah Armenta combined to finish third in the 4x400 meter relay, posting a time of 4:21.82.
SBVC's runners will split up next weekend, as they work their way to championship season. The distance runners will head to Cal State San Marcos on Friday to participate in the Mangrum Invitational. The sprinters will head Saturday to El Camino College for the Dave Shannon Invitational.
