
The San Bernardino Valley College track team split up last weekend to compete as they work their way through the 2025 season.
Friday, it was the sprinters who thrived at the Long Beach City College Invitational.
Jade Campbell continued improving her speed, as she won her heat in the 100 meters with a personal best time of 12.91 seconds, which placed her fourth overall. She also won her heat in the 200 meters, stopping the clock at 26.34 seconds, which placed her third overall.
She wasn't the only runner impressing in the sprints. Liliana Wilson also won her heat in the 200 meters, posting a time of 27.45 seconds. And Jessie Espinoza posted her personal best in the 100 meters, with a time of 13.49 seconds.
Those three runners were joined by Dianna Calleja to post a season best time in the 4x100 meter relay, winning their race with a time of 53.93 seconds. Then, Wilson, Calleja, Campbell and Zailah Armenta finished second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:27.92.
A pair of distance runners also shined in Long Beach, as Alondra Ruiz finished third in the 1500 meters, posting a time of 5:41.91. And Emma Fierro posted a personal best in the 5,000 meters, finishing sixth with a time of 23:05.3.
Saturday, Sara Jaquez competed at the Occidental College Spring Breat event, facing off against runners from four-year schools. She ran in the 800 meters, posting a state "A" standard time of 2:22.34, the fifth fastest time in the state this year.
