SBVC Women Finding Legs on Track

Early season track meets are usually about getting your legs going and getting into the mindset of competition.

For six members of the 2025 San Bernardino Valley College women's track team, it's also about getting repetition on the track. The six also played soccer for the Wolverines in the fall, taking the skills they use on the field and moving them to the track.

At Saturday's Ron Kamaka Open at Mt. San Antonio College, many got their first big taste at this level. But it was a track veteran who made some early gains.

Sara Jaquez moved up to the 1500 meters this spring, and posted the fourth-fastest time in school history, finishing at 5 miinutes, 0.95 seconds. The finish was good for the ninth overall at the meet.

Meanwhile, soccer players Melanie Bravo, Dianna Calleja, and Jessie Espinoza all ran well in the 100 and 200 meters. Teammate Alondra Ruiz went the distance route, running the 3000 meters.
