SBVC Opens IEAC Play With Impressive Win

April Regalado was credited with two goals and the San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team fired 51 shots toward the Cerro Coso College goal as the Wolverines opened Inland Empire Athletic Conference play with a 6-0 win Friday.

Regalado opened the scoring in the sixth minute. After being tripped in the penalty box, she stepped up to the spot and slotted her shot in for the 1-0 lead. Angelina Diaz doubled the lead in the 19th minute, firing one in from about 20 yards out, and the Wolverines carried that lead to the half.

The Wolverines kept up the pressure in the second half. After firing 25 shots in the first half, the Wolverines fired 26 in the second 45 minutes.

Jessica Ruiz got the second half scoring started in the 54th minute, as she fired one in from about 23 yards. Then, Regalado got credit for her second goal, as her corner kick curled toward the back post, where it was deflected in by a Cerro Coso defender in the 73rd minute. Yesika Gonzalez scored in the 80th minute, as she blocked a clearing pass, then stepped forward and fired from 28 yards to make it 5-0. And minutes before the final whistle, Jovana Soto-Torres finished the scoring, with a blast from about 22 yards.

In the end, the Wolverines outshot the Coyotes 51-0, with Cerro Coso only managing one corner kick against the swarming SBVC defense. Cerro Coso goalkeeper Kenya Tabudlo made 21 saves for the Coyotes.

The Wolverines will play their next three IEAC games on the road, with a trip to Norco College on Tuesday, and then a trip to Chaffey College next Friday - the first day fans will be allowed to attend games at Chaffey this season.
