SBVC Women’s Soccer spears the Spartans, 3-1

SBVC (7-1; 3-0) remained perfect in the PCAC as they dispatched another Conference foe, this time pushing aside the Oceanside MiraCosta Spartans (1-6; 1-2), 3-1.

Once again, SBVC stuck with the winning game plan of putting many shots on net and stifling their opponents as the home side took 36 shots with 17 of those being on goal, compared to the Spartans which only took 3 shots all game.

Sophomore midfielder Calvonis Prentice (Hemet Tahquitz) got SBVC onto the board first, in the 8th minute as both her and sophomore midfielder Alondra Gildo-Ceballos (Fontana H.S.) attempted to take a free kick, off of a Spartans foul. As Prentice approached "Crio" tapped the ball and Prentice rifled a shot, up and over the keepers outstretched hands to give SBVC the early 1-0 lead.

Then the improbable happened, in the 17th minute, the visiting team struck, a rare event that last occurred on October 16th, 2015 against Rio Hondo. SBVC had not allowed a goal at home in over 11 months, a superb accomplishment by the SBVC defense, but after the game was tied at 1-1, SBVC went back to work.

And in the 39th minute, freshman midfielder Evelyn Findlay (Grand Terrace H.S.) took a great lob pass by freshman defender Jordan Steele (Hemet Tahquitz) and pounded her first goal of 2016 past the keeper to give SBVC the lead just before the half. It was Steele's team leading fourth assist on the year.

Freshman goal keeper Vanessa Casillas (Bloomington H.S.), who has taken the bulk of the work for SBVC in net this season, performed brilliantly all afternoon only facing three shots and making a save.

In the 84th minute, sophomore midfielder Baylee Williams (Beaumont H.S.) (aka "Money") cashed in her team leading fourth goal of the season and first in Conference play, as she received the third assist of the season from Gildo-Ceballos and mashed a shot past the diving Spartans keeper, putting the dagger in the game for SBVC.
