SBVC Women’s Soccer downs previously undefeated Roadrunners, 3-1

SBVC (12-1-2; 3-0) took control of the Foothill Conference lead scoring all three goals in the second half and pushing past the very tough Whittier Rio Hondo Roadrunners (9-1-2; 1-1), 3-1.

SBVC came back from a one goal deficit in the second half, scoring three goals, to beat the Roadrunners, handing them their first loss of the season, allowing SBVC to lead the Foothill Conference with a perfect 3-0 record.

The Wolverines were slow to get started, giving up the first score of the game in the 2nd minute to the Roadrunners.  SBVC was quick to make defensive adjustments, shutting down the Roadrunners attack and keeping the score at 1-0 at halftime. Freshman goalkeeper Arianna Rodriguez (La Quinta H.S) was lights out for the remainder of the game, providing seven saves for the Wolverines.

SBVC's offense didn't come alive until the second half when freshman forward Baylee Williams (Beaumont H.S.) nailed in the Wolverines first score of the game in the 56th minute and providing the assist was sophomore forward Leandra Garlinger (Riverside John Wesley North).  Williams wasn't finished with her assault on the Roadrunner's keeper getting another goal and SBVC's second score in the 75th minute with the incredible assist coming from freshman midfielder Alondra Gildo-Ceballos (Fontana H.S.) and the score at 2-1.

SBVC continued to play great defense and kept Rio Hondo on their heels with several more shots aimed at the Roadrunner's keeper.  With only minutes left in the match, SBVC sealed the win with another tremendous score coming from Gildo-Ceballos and Garlinger providing another great assist.  SBVC finished the game, 3-1 and continues to be undefeated in Foothill Conference play.

SBVC's next game will be played on October 23rd at Chaffey and their next home game will be October 30th against Desert at 1 p.m.
