Big Third Quarter Lifts SBVC to Victory

After a slow-starting, tightly-played first half, the San Bernardino Valley College women's basketball team came back from halftime with a higher tempo of play that helped them turn a one-point lead into a 14-point advantage that spurred them to a 58-37 victory.

The Wolverines went on a 16-2 run over the span of about four minutes mid-way through the third quarter, as they made 52.6 percent of their shots in the quarter. The Fighting Cacti had troubles slowing down the quick play of Destiny Melendez in the quarter, as she was 4-for-8 from the field with four assists in the period. She finished the day with a game-high 18 points with 10 rebounds and the four assists.

She wasn't alone in putting up big numbers. Mo'nikque Lightfoot finished the game with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Domineek Butler posted nine points and 13 rebounds, and Maryanne Palacios added nine more points. SBVC outrebounded Copper Mountain 55-40 for the game, while finishing the game shooting 33.3 percent from the field.
