Chaffey Outlasts SBVC in IEAC Opener

The San Bernardino Valley College women's basketball opened Inlande Empire Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon firing.

The Wolverines held a four-point lead after the first quarter, making 40 percent of their shots, while holding visiting Chaffey College to only 10 points on 4-of-19 shooting.

But SBVC could not keep up the pace on either end of the floor, as the Panthers held the Wolverines to single digit scoring in each of the last three quarters as the Panthers left with a 53-40 victory.

The Wolverines ended up posting a better shooting percentage in the game (31.5 percent to 30.3 percent), but Chaffey made the most of 12 more attempts at the basket - and from the free throw line. The Panthers hit 12-of-13 shots from the line, while SBVC only had three shots from the charity stripe.

Candee Evans led the way for SBVC, as she scored 15 points and added eight rebounds and four assists. Priscilla Najera added 13 points for SBVC, while also contributing four assists. Jazlyn Jackson pullled down 11 rebounds for the Wolverines.

Chaffey was led by Brilonnie Bell, who posted a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Jaylyn Edmonds added 11 points, while Trinity Walker had 10.

Due to a quirk in scheduling, the SBVC women will be on the road for the next month, returning home to play their final five games at home beginning Feb. 2.
