The San Bernardino Valley College men's cross country team wrapped up its best season since 2017 Saturday morning, taking third place as a team at the California Community College Athletic Association Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno.
Vinnie Quiroz once again led the Wolverines at Woodward Park. After finishing 23rd a year ago, he knocked four seconds off his time on the course to finish seventh in the field of 192 runners. He crossed the line at 21 minutes, 2.1 seconds to earn All-American status.
Kevin Nava, who has been pacing the Wolverines the last several weeks, stopped the clock at 21:17.3 for 15th place. Not far behind was Jacob Mendiola, who finished in 22nd with a time of 21:30.6. Both runners earned second-team All-American status for their finish.
Zach Calderon was the next SBVC runner across, finishing 54th with a time of 22:05.5. Close behind him was Armando Nunez, who stopped the clock at 22:11.4 for 60th to round out the Wolverines' scoring five.
San Diego Mesa once again won the state championship, with Mt. San Antonio finishing second to keep the top three teams the same as they were at the Southern California Regionals. The top nine of the top 10 teams were from Southern California, with Hartnell College the only team from the North to crack the top 10, finishing ninth.
