SBVC Runs in Top Five at So Cal Preview

The San Bernardino Valley College men's cross country team posted a fifth place finish on a hot Friday morning at the Southern California Preview race at Chaffey College on Oct. 4.

Kevin Nava pushed up through the field throughout the 4-mile race, going from 24th after the first mile to a ninth-place finish with a time of 21 minutes, 32.4 seconds to pace the Wolverines. Two other Wolverines finished in the top 20, with Elijah McBroom finishing 15th in a time of 21:51.5, while Vinnie Quiroz - running at less-than full strength - crossed in 17th in a time of 21:57.6.

Zach Calderon was next across, finishing 31st at 22:19.0, and Armando Nunez rounded out the Wolverines' scoring five, finished 51st at 22:47.1.

Another seven SBVC runners participated in the overflow race, with the Wolverines winning the team standings in the event featuring enough runners for nine teams to score in the event. Three Wolverines finished in the top 10 in the race, while the team finished with a 56 second gap between the team's top five finishers.

Jacob Mendiola was the top finisher in the second race, finishing third in 23:18.1. Noah Townsend made his way up through the field, climbing six spots to finish sixth at 23:26.8. Alan Varela was next, stopping the clock at 23:33.8 for eighth place, while Angel Ventura was 11th at 23:41.6.
