Solid Team Race Sends SBVC to State

The San Bernardino Valley College men's cross country team's run toward the State Championships in Fresno will continue, as the team finished 11th at the Southern California Regionals on Friday in Bakersfield.

Dennis Cordova was the first across the line for the Wolverines, stopping the clock at 21 minutes, 28.1 seconds, good for 59th in the field. But it was the quick succession of finishers in the middle of the pack that helped push the Wolverines into a team qualifying spot.

Fercis Torres finished 77th overall in the four-mile race, crossing at 21:55, while not far behind were Chris Valderrama (83rd, 21:59.5), Jake Caliva (87th, 22:10.7) and Arian Mayorga (89th, 22:17.7).

Defending Southern California champions San Diego Mesa finished atop the leaderboard again this year, placing three of the top four finishers in the field.

The team will now prepare for its trip to Woodward Park in Fresno for the state championships on Nov. 19.
