Sophomore Kevin Nava got some advice from his coach Friday - "trust your kick."
The Bloomington High graduate to that advice to heart Saturday afternoon, as he chased down the field in the last 250 meters and won the 1500-meter run at the Ron Kamaka Open at Mt. San Antonio College.
Nava finished the race in 4 minutes, 6 seconds - just one of several strong early season performances for San Bernardino Valley College athletes on the day. He later came back and finished fourth in his heat of the 3000 meters, posting a time of 8:44.66 - the fourth-fastest time ever posted by an SBVC runner, and the second best time posted by a runner in the 3C2A so far this season.
Sprinter Solomon German posted his personal best in the 100 meters, clocking in at 10.58 seconds. Semaj Jonson also posted a PR in the 400 meters, stopping the clock at 50.08 seconds. The two also played key roles in the relays, as the 4x100 meter relay team posted a time of 43.35 seconds, and the 4x400 meter relay team finished at 3:22.84.
At the longer distances, Nathan Chou finished fourth in his heat at 800 meters, finishing in 2:00.54, while Nicholas Juarez finished second in his heat of the 3000 meters at 9:30.43.
