
Jacob Mendiola shaved another five seconds off his personal best time, and took third place at the California Community College Athletic Association State Track and Field Championships at Saddleback College.
The freshman crossed the line at 9 minutes, 22.56 seconds to take the bronze medal. His time is one second behind the fifth-best time in SBVC history in the event. He finished behind Southern California Champion Ernesto Ruiz of Riverside City - who finished with a time of 9:05.4 - and Northern California Champion Antoine Moret of De Anza College (9:10.72).
San Bernardino Valley's other representative at the state championships was Jade Campbell. She finished ninth in the women's 400 meters with a time of 58.27 seconds. Her time is 0.24 seconds off the fifth-fastest time in school history in the event.
