SBVC Runners Show Strong at Pomona-Pitzer Meet

For the members of the San Bernardino Valley College track and field teams, the second competitive meet of the season - especially one like the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet against four-year schools - is a chance to see how the early season training has gone.

And with the results from the meet Saturday, it appears that things are trending in the right direction for the Wolverines.

SBVC runners posted solid results - including some personal bests - at the meet.

John Mireles won his heat in the 800 meters, posting a time of 2 minutes, 4.43 seconds, while teammate Jahzeri Gill was closing fast to finish third in the heat at 2:05.31. Johnathan Taylor finished second in his 100 meter heat, posting a time of 11.68. And he and Gill posted strong finishes in separate 200 meter heats, with Taylor posting a 24.61 finish and Gill crossing at 24.99. Distance runners Chris Valderrama, Fercis Torres, and Arian Mayorga all posted personal best finishes in a crowded field in the 3,000 meters.

On the women's side, Angelique Seckel finished third in her heat of the 100 meters, posting a time of 13.57. She also posted a time of 28.71 in the 200 meters. Distance runner Yoselin Canseco is looking to work her way into the SBVC record books, posting a 11:50.40 finish in the 3,000 meters, among the top 10 finishes in school history.

The Wolverines return to training this week before heading off on a busy schedule of meets in March, starting with the Saddleback College Invitational on March 4.
