SBVC, Norco End in Scoreless Draw

The battles between the San Bernardino Valley and Norco colleges men's soccer teams are regularly back-and-forth, intense battles.

And for the second year in a row, the game between the two teams at SBVC turned out the same - a scoreless draw.

Both teams had their chances, though. Norco was awarded a penalty kick in the 25th minute, and Jose Garcia stepped up for the Mustangs. His shot went to the left of SBVC goalkeeper Matthew Guzman, who dove out and parried the ball away to preserve the scoreless game.

Norco picked up the pace in the 50th minute, pressing the SBVC defense and earning four corner kicks over the span of five minutes. But each time, Guzman and his defense were there to clear the ball away. The Mustangs' best chance in the second half came when Vinicius Goncalves got free on a quick through ball on the right side, and his shot beat Guzman to the short side, but clanged off the near post and bounced out.

The Wolverines would get a close call as well in the second half. After a corner kick in the 71st minute, the ball bounced in the 6-yard bounce, off a couple of players, and with goalkeeper Adan Zamora on his back, SBVC's Andres Aceves poked the ball toward the net, but Zamora reached up and grabbed it before it could go over the line.

Norco ended the game outshooting SBVE 17-13, and the Mustangs earned six corners to two for SBVC. Guzman made seven saves, while Zamora had four.
