Nine SBVC Players Earn All-IEAC Honors

Nine members of the San Bernardino Valley College men’s soccer team were honored with selections to the All-Inland Empire Athletic Conference teams, as voted on by conference coaches.

The team had three players named to the first team, three to the second team, and three who earned honorable mention honors.

The first team selections were:

  • Jose Garcia, midfielder: The freshman from Cajon High School in San Bernardino was third on the team with six goals, but led the team with eight assists.
  • Brayden Moore, midfielder/defender: The yin to Garcia’s yang, Moore – a sophomore from Beaumont HS – often was found plugging up any holes on the Wolverines’ defense. Acting as somewhat of a stopper, he could be found in the middle of the field slowing opponents’ attacks.
  • David Politron, defender/midfielder: Depending on the Wolverines’ needs and formation, Politron (San Bernardino HS) would often roam the wings for SBVC. He was second on the team with seven goals, while also adding five assists.

Earning second team honors were:

  • Juan Bonola, forward: A graduate of San Bernardino’s San Gorgonio High School, Bonola also had seven goals on the season, finding his way into the tight areas in the offensive end to clean up rebounds, as well as finishing off crossing passes in the middle.
  • Jesus Mendoza, defender: Another member of SBVC’s strong back line, Mendoza – a freshman out of Hesperia Sultana – scored twice, but was mostly counted on to shut down opponents on attack.
  • Adrian Munoz, goalkeeper: The sophomore from Moreno Valley Valley View took the reins of the SBVC net and ran with it. He finished with a record of seven wins, one loss, and two draws in 14 starts. He was part of four clean sheets for SBVC this season.

Selected as honorable mentions were:

  • Christian Hernandez, midfielder: Often paired with Garcia in the attacking midfield, the sophomore from Moreno Valley Valley View had seven goals and two assists on the season.
  • Eric Ramos, forward: The team’s leading scorer with eight tallies (to go with four assists), the freshman from Moreno Valley Valley View used his 6-foot-0 frame to win battles in deep for the Wolverines.
  • Christian Torres, defender: A sophomore from Moreno Valley’s Valley View HS, he scored once on the season, and was often seen running the wing, delivering long balls across when he wasn’t shutting down attackers on the right side of the field.

The SBVC men’s soccer team is preparing for Saturday’s first round of the CCCAA, as the Wolverines will play Cuyamaca College at 2 p.m. on the SBVC Soccer Field. Tickets for the game are $12 for general admission and $8 for students (with ID), faculty/staff, seniors, and children ages 3-12. Prices are set by the CCCAA for game administration costs.
