SBVC Adjusts, Knocks Off LA City

For most of Tuesday night's game, the San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team had troubles generating the attack it needed to break through against Los Angeles City College.

But in the 76th minute, the Wolverines finally got a promising attack deep in the Cubs' end. And that led to a foul in the penalty box by the LA City defense, which Christian Hernandez converted to give SBVC the only goal it would need, as the Wolverines remained unbeated (5-0-2) with a 1-0 win.

Coach Josh Brown switched up his formation in the second half, which helped the Wolverines find new ways to attack the Cubs, who played a pestering defense. But SBVC still had troubles getting shots off, only able to send 10 shots toward the LA City goal, with only five being on target.

Meanwhile, the Cubs pushed forward and had chances to break through against the SBVC defense. The Cubs had multiple outnumbered attacks, but couldn't get a shot past goalkeeper Matthew Guzman, who made eight saves to record the clean sheet.

SBVC finishes a home stretch a t 4 p.m. Friday afternoon against Santa Ana.
