SBVC Pick Up Draw in Finale

SBVC Pick Up Draw in Finale

Less than a minute into their game Tuesday, the San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team had a golden chance to take an early lead against Norco College.

The ball came into the penalty area, where Ebrima Njie was able to loop the ball onto goal. But like so many other times this season, the ball didn't find its way into the net. Norco defender Justin Felix was able to deflect the ball off the line, and keep the game scoreless.

That possible goal may have been the difference, as the Wolverines walked out of SBVC Stadium on a rain-soaked day with a 1-1 draw in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference finale for both teams.

The Wolverines were able to take the lead in the 31st minute. Erick Ibarra sent the ball toward the penalty spot, where a defender deflected the ball onto the feet of Rolando Lombera, who fired the ball into the net to give SBVC a 1-0 lead.

SBVC clamped down, and controlled the flow of the game. But it was a quick turnaround that led to Norco's goal. Efren Nunez-Dominguez got the ball near midfield and sent a hard pass to Aiden Olufson, who split the SBVC defense and fired from the top of the penalty area to tie the game. It was Norco's only shot of the second half.

In a repeat of most of their games this season, the Wolverines outshot their opponent, with SBVC firing 15 shots (nine on goal) to Norco's seven (three on goal).
