Wolverines Can't Corral Mustangs in Loss

Needing a win to keep pace in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference race, the San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team found itself trailing a little more than five minutes into Tuesday's game against Norco College.

Norco's Carlos Lira converted from the penalty spot in the sixth minute, then he scored again on a pass from Vincent Saldivar in the 22nd minute as the Mustangs beat the Wolverines 2-0 on the soccer field.

The Wolverines pushed for a break through the rest of the way, but had a hard time breaking through a stingy Norco defense. SBVC was outshot in the game 19-11, with the Wolverines only able to get two shots on goal - one that was stopped by goalkeeper David Calva, and another cleared off the line by a Norco defender after Blake Dismang's header got by Calva.

Both teams played a physical game, with the teams combining for 40 total fouls, and a total of seven cards issued.
