SBVC Hall of Famer Serves Up HR Derby Victory

The Los Angeles Dodgers' Teoscar Hernandez became the first player from the team to win the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby on Monday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

But Hernandez won with the help of a San Bernardino Valley College Hall of Famer.

Dino Ebel, the former SBVC baseball player and member of the school's Wall of Professional Champions, served as the batting practice pitcher for Hernandez.

It was the fourth time Ebel has served as a pitcher in the event, having thrown pitches to Vladimir Guerrero and Albert Pujols while he was a coach with the Angels. He also threw for the Dodgers' Joc Pedersen in 2019.

Hernandez told the Southern California News Group that he chose Ebel because, "He knows how to do it, he has experience and I think he's the best one because he's going to control the emotions and all those things."

Hernandez won the final round of the event, outslugging the Kansas City Royals' Bobby Witt Jr. 14-13 to win the championship and the $1 million bonus.
