SBVC Bats Pound Vikings

SBVC Bats Pound Vikings

One of the things the San Bernardino Valley College baseball team has been looking for more of this season has been clutch two-out hits.

They got a big one in the first inning Tuesday afternoon, and it sparked the Wolverines to a 14-1 victory over Barstow College.

The Wolverines loaded the bases with one out in the first, but Nathan Campos-Jaramillo popped up in the infield for the second out. But Aidan Skinner followed by shooting the ball into the game in left-center field to clear the bases and give SBVC a 3-0 lead it would never relinquish.

After Barstow got an unearned run back in the second, the Valley offense kept pounding away at the Vikings, scoring runs after two were out in every inning but the eighth - the only inning they were held scoreless.

Melchor Flores provided a portion of the run support, going 2-for-4 - both doubles - with four runs batted in. Kaleb Castro also added a pair of doubles, going 3-for-5, scoring twice. Jaramillo ended the day 3-for-4 with a double, his state-leading 19th of the season.

Meanwhile, Diego Castillo was keeping the Barstow offense off balance from the mound. He gave up four hits and struck out five in six innings of work, allowing only the one unearned run for his third win of the season.
