Wolverines Rally, Blow Past LA Mission

The San Bernardino Valley College baseball team was down 6-0 after an inning and a half in Saturday's home opener against Los Angeles Mission College.

But the Wolverines scored five times in the bottom half of the second, then twice more in the third, never looking back as SBVC completed a two-game weekend sweep of the Eagles with a 16-8 victory Saturday afternoon.

The Wolverines' second-inning outburst came thanks to two LA Mission errors, three walks and a hit-by-pitch. Edward Aldama provided the only hit of the inning, as he pulled a high chopper that bounced over first base down the right field line that scored Gage Brandt and Matt Glover. In the third the Wolverines took the lead by scoring twice with two outs. Brandt scored from third on a passed ball, then Aldama scored on a double from Patrick Perez.

Meanwhile, Cody Milner came in for starter Robert Luna with one out in the second inning and settled things down from the mound. Milner picked up the victory, going 4 2/3 innings of relief, giving up one run and three hits. Pedro Gomez finished the game out on the mound, going three innings, striking out seven.

Leadoff batter Aldama set the table for the offense, going 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI. Derek Bogh and Jesse McGonigal each had three RBI, while Brandt was 2-for-4 with four runs scored. The Wolverines also benefitted from inconsistent pitching from the Eagles, as they drew 13 walks in the game, and had three batters hit by a pitch.
