SBVC Baseball falls in a close game to Roadrunners, 3-1

SBVC (21-13; 17-5) has already secured a playoff position, but is still in need of wins in order to improve that playoff positon, that goal had a set back today as the Whittier Rio Hondo Roadrunners (26-8; 18-4), the team they were tied with going into this three-game series took game one, 3-1.

Both teams were tied atop the Foothill Conference standings going into game one and both teams sent their ace pitchers to the mound to duel it out. With the Roadrunners sending freshman right handed starting pitcher Joe Wills (9-1) (Covina H.S.) and SBVC countering with sophomore right handed starting pitcher Nick Przybylek (8-3) (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.).

Przybylek had a fantastic scoring line, with a complete game, giving up three runs, all earned, on ten hits walking one and striking out six. Unfortunately, the SBVC offense was slow to get moving as they had four innings with only one hit and three innings when the offense was set down in order.

SBVC sophomore center fielder Titus Carlson (Moreno Valley Valley View) led off the bottom of the first with a single to right and freshman right fielder Austin Berglund (Etiwanda H.S.) followed that up with a bunt single back to the pitcher. After a ground out to third advanced the runners, freshman second baseman Jonathan McCray (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.) was intentionally walked and sophomore catcher Christian Fillingame (Oak Hills H.S.) ground out to the short stop to score Carlson from third, giving SBVC the early 1-0 lead.

Rio Hondo would tie the game in the top of the second, then add two more runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 3-1. Carlson went 2 for 4 with a run scored and McCray went 2 for 3 on the afternoon.
