SBVC Baseball grabs a tough victory from the Vikings, 11-7

SBVC (8-11; 4-3) opened up the game with a four-run first inning then had to explode for five more runs in the seventh to push past the upstart Barstow Vikings (9-10; 5-2), 11-7.

Freshman left handed starting pitcher Sam Fitzgerald (Lake Elsinore H.S.) tossed five innings, giving up five runs, all earned, on eight hits, walking two and striking out five in the no decision. Sophomore right handed pitcher Luis Villarreal (3-0) (Colton H.S.) threw three innings and grabbed his third win of the season, surrendering two runs, both earned on five hits walking one and striking out two. Sophomore right handed pitcher Tyler Sapp (Yucaipa H.S.) grabbed his first save of the year in throwing the ninth, giving up a hit and a walk, striking out one.

 Sophomore left fielder Christian Hendrix (Fontana Henry J. Kaiser) was dominant at the pate as the seven-hole hitter, going 4 for 4 with three runs batted in and freshman right fielder Austin Berglund (Etiwanda H.S.) in the two-slot, went 4 for 5 with two runs scored on the afternoon.

 Sophomore first baseman Aaron Cisneros (San Bernardino H.S.) punched out a 3 for 5 day at the plate scoring two runs and collecting an RBI and sophomore catcher Christian Fillingame (Oak Hills H.S.) went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI's.

 SBVC scored four runs in the bottom of the first and Barstow responded in the top half of the third with a run of their own, making the score 4-1. SBVC then tacked on another run in the bottom of the third to regain the four-run cushion, but the Vikings would tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the sixth. Barstow would take a one-run lead in the top of the seventh, but SBVC roared back with five in the bottom of the seventh. The Vikings added a run in the top of the eighth and SBVC added one more run in the bottom of the eighth.
