SBVC Baseball suffers frustrating loss to Rams, 7-6

SBVC (5-10; 1-2) has had a tough go of it lately, just as they seem to be turning a corner, they take a few steps back and today was no different as the home team fell to the Victorville Victor Valley Rams (3-9; 1-2), 7-6.

Sophomore right handed starting pitcher Brandon Conlon (Norco H.S.) had a solid outing as he gave up five runs, three earned, on ten hits, walking three and striking out eight in seven innings of work. Sophomore right handed pitcher Luis Villarreal (Colton H.S.) in a relief appearance only tossed a third of an inning before being lifted for sophomore right handed pitcher Jeremy Moreno (1-1) (Riverside Poly) who was tagged with the afternoon loss.

SBVC an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a two-run home run by sophomore catcher Christian Fillingame (Oak Hills H.S.), but the Rams would answer with three runs in the top half of the third adding another run in the top of the fourth.

SBVC would equalized the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth, after a leadoff walk to Fillingame, sophomore designated hitter Ricardo Garcia (Guayaquil, Ecuador) singled to left and a freshman third baseman Ryan Redford (Corona Centennial) sacrifice bunt, brought in Fillingame. Eventually, Garcia came around to score on an error by the Rams first baseman.

SBVC then took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth, but Victor Valley put up two in the top of the eighth, taking the lead 6-5. SBVC once again tied the score, this time at 6-6, in the bottom half of the frame. But Victor Valley took the lead for good in the top of the ninth, plating a run.

Sophomore right fielder Kurtis Kloke (San Bernardino Cajon) had a great game, going 3 for 5 with a run scored and Fillingame went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 runs batted in. Sophomore short stop Tyler Robles (Etiwanda H.S.) went 2 for 4 with an RBI on the very cold afternoon.
