SBVC Women Gain Experience in Cal State Meet

The San Bernardino Valley College women's cross country team finished third among two-year schools and 10th overall during the Coyote Classic meet held Sept. 22 at Cal State San Bernardino.

The event, which doubled as the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference preview race, featured schools from each level of college athletics -- from Division I to junior college -- competing against one another. Cal State San Marcos won the overall title, with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finishing second in the 5K race.

Alissa Johnson was the top finisher for the Wolverines, crossing the line with a time of 18 minutes, 40.2 seconds, good for 29th overall and third among junior college runners. Returning All-American Alyssa Benavides finished 37th in a time of 18:54.7.

The rest of the Wolverines' scorers were bunched up in the middle of the field of 212 runners. Darilyn Hernandez finished in 20:20.3 (115th overall). Brandy Ayala crossed at 20:36.0 (122nd). Jessica Aguilara finished at 21:13.7 (139th). Lilly Armendariz posted a time of 21:28.6 (143rd). Jayda Martinez finished at 21:37.3 (148th).
