Fall Season Preview - Women's Cross Country

Longtime SBVC coach Ken Blumenthal led the team to their first Women's Cross Country Foothill Conference Championship in six years last season and then secured a spot at the State Finals for the first time in program history.

The women's team finished eighth in So.cal and 12th at the State meet and is looking for a return trip for 2014.

Although the team did lose three key sophomores to transfer, (Jasmine Ramero, Melina Hernandez and Alisa Murray), Blumenthal expects the incoming Freshmen and returners to pick up right where they left off last season.

SBVC did receive several transfers this season including, Olga Mondragon, who came in from CSULB.She was an All CIF performer at Fontana Jurupa Hills and Kylie Stephenson, who transferred in from Saddleback. Expectations are high for sophomore Karlie Creal, who had excellent seasons in both Cross Country and Track last year.

Fernanda Rodriguez is coming in with the highest credentials of any freshman and is looking to fill the spot of one of the three sophomores, and according to Blumenthal, "she is making good progress." Adrianna Contreras is also looking good after being injured most of last year.Their is also six other freshman working hard to be in the top seven.

"Nothing works, like work" says Blumenthal, words that are a mantra of sorts for not only him, but the women on the team as well. The team chose shirts this season that have their own saying on the back, two words: "And Some." They have to fill in the blank with their own words of wisdom. Blumenthal chose "Faith (make it back to state)" "Hope (for a better future through education) and "Love (which equals the hard work assigned to the team to prepare them for success)."

The girls will fill in their shirts and explain their words to the others before our first race at Oceanside.
