SBVC Women’s Track: Littlefield grabs 2nd in 400 hurdles at Vaquero Classic

SBVC Women's Track & Field hit the road again for their eighth event of the 2016 season as they sent 8 student athletes to the Vaquero Classic at Glendale College. SBVC participated in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, 1500 meter run, 100 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles, 3000 meter steeplechase, 4x100 meter relay, 4x400 meter relay and long jump.

In the torrential rain in Glendale, sophomore hurdler Cara Littlefield (Grand Terrace H.S.) led the way for SBVC in the 400 meter hurdles as she finished with a time of 1:11.81, dropping 0.26 seconds off of her previous best, good enough for second place and freshman hurdler Alicia Sandoval-Paris (San Bernardino Cajon) collected a 7th place finish with a time of 1:18.31.

Freshman sprints runner Savanna Perez (Rialto W.A. Carter) was spectacular in the 400 meter dash finishing in 3rd place with a time of 59.98 and Littlefield was close behind with a 1:04.50, good enough for 6th place.

Freshman distance runner Alyssa Hebb (Redlands East Valley) broke the women's steeplechase record again, crossing the finish after the grueling 3000 meter race with a time of 12:12.00, dropping 22.67 seconds off of her previous best which was good enough for 5th place and 5.73 seconds ahead of her nearest opponent. Distance coach Jim Ratigan comented, "This time ranks Hebb 7th in So Cal and 10th in the state" in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase.

Sophomore distance runner Jennifer Granados (Jurupa Valley Patriot) led the way for SBVC in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:38.29, good enough for 16th place and Hebb grabbed an 18th place finish with a time of 2:40.00. Granados also participated in the 1500 meter run, grabbing a 10th place time of 5:28.20. Coach Ratigan stated, Granados "ran two personal record times in the 1500 and the 800."

Sophomore sprints runner Aisha Johnwell (Etiwanda H.S.) collected an 8th place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.34 seconds and both the 4x100 team and the 4x400 team grabbed top-5 performances with the 4x100 team finishing 5th with a time of 53.0 seconds and the 4x400 team finishing 2nd with a time of 4:17.47.

Sophomore jumper Briana McField (Rialto W.A. Carter) went the distance in the long jump, finishing in 17th place with a distance of 4.44 meters and Littlefield reached 4.02 meters, good enough for 23rd place. McField also participated in the 100 meter hurdles, grabbing a 6th place time of 17.08 seconds. Both Johnwell and McField ran the 100 meter dash, with Johnwell crossing the line in 13.38 seconds for 11th place and McField reaching in 13.92, good enough for 19th place.
