Wolverines Keep It Simple in Victory Over Knights

The San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team got a goal in each half as it ran its winning streak to 11 games in a 2-0 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference victory over San Diego City College.

Kayla Storm and Jordan Steele netted goals for the Wolverines, who shut out their opponent for the 12th time in 13 total wins this season. Part of that was a solid performance from the back line and midfield, which limited the Knights to only four shot attempts in the game, with starting goaltender Natalie Carreon forced to only make one save.

Storm opened the scoring in the 17th minute. She got a centering pass back toward the top of the penalty box, about 24 yards out, and she fired a shot that hit the bottom of the crossbar, then bounced into the back of the net, giving the Wolverines a 1-0 lead. San Bernardino Valley continued to put the pressure on, but Knights' goaltender Veronika Castillo made six saves in the opening 45 minutes.

Steele netted her sixth goal of the year in the 59th minute. Ivana Hernandez sent a long ball toward the middle of the penalty area, and Steele outraced the defense, poking the ball past Castillo for the 2-0 advantage.

San Bernardino Valley ended the game with 27 attempts on goal, with  Castillo making nine save. San Diego had no shots in the second half.
