SBVC Women’s Soccer chases off the Roadrunners, 7-0

SBVC (14-1-3; 5-0-1) celebrated Sophomore Day then went out and rolled up another visiting team as they continued their streak of home wins stretching back three seasons and defeated the Palm Desert College of the Desert Roadrunners (7-11-1; 0-6), 7-0.

SBVC has a 32-0-3 regular season home record since the beginning of the 2012 season.

Sophomore forward Leandra Garlinger (Riverside John Wesley North) got the warm and very windy afternoon off to a raucous start as she dialed in her 21st goal of the season in the 8th minute off an assist from sophomore midfielder Julissa Magana (Bloomington H.S.) to give SBVC the early 1-0 lead.

Little more than 10 minutes later in the 19th minute sophomore midfielder Amairany Rosales (Rialto H.S.) found herself in front of the net for her tenth goal of the season, thanks to a brilliant pass from Garlinger to give SBVC a 2-0 lead.

Moments later, freshman forward Alondra Gutierrez (Thermal Coachella Valley) rifled a shot into the back of the net on an assist from sophomore defender Brandi Ferguson (Moreno Valley Rancho Verde) to give SBVC a 3-0 lead in the 23rd minute.

Just before halftime, sophomore forward Mariana Valenciana-Madrigal (Jurupa Valley H.S.) took a redirect off of the Roadrunners keeper and alertly pounded a shot into the top of the net for an untouchable 4-0 lead in the 42nd minute.

One minute into the second half, sophomore forward Aleyah Coleman (Palm Springs H.S.) grabbed the first of her two goals on the afternoon when Magana found the forward sprinting down the left side of the field and lobbed a brilliant pass in for the score.

Ten minutes later Coleman would bring the hammer down on her tenth goal of the season when sophomore forward Caitlin Weaver (Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World) passed the ball to her for the sixth goal of the afternoon.

Freshman forward Baylee Williams (Beaumont H.S.) would wrap up the scoring in the 87th minute with "knuckleball" goal on an assist from Rosales. Due to the winds, as Williams struck the ball it seemed to take a midair redirect and slammed right into the back of the net for her fifth goal of the year.

Freshman starting goalkeeper Arianna Rodriguez (La Quinta H.S) spent 58 minutes in net, making three saves and was subbed out by sophomore goalkeeper Savannah Chadd (Murrieta Mesa) who had 19 minutes in net and then freshman goalkeeper Dacia Melendez (Phelan Serrano) came in to finish the game, making a save.
