Fall Season Preview - SBVC Women’s Soccer

SBVC Women's Soccer ended the 2014 season ranked fourth in Southern California, sixth in California, and 11th in the nation by the NSCAA. They ended the year with a 15-2-6 overall record and an undefeated Foothill Conference slate, going 7-0-3. Expectations are high for this season as they take on some of the toughest teams in the state.

There was much to be proud of last season for women soccer. Many of the players that were in both CCCAA SoCal Regionals games are now sophomores returning with increased motivation to have another successful season.

The returning sophomores have been elevating their soccer skills in the off season, anticipating the 2015 season. They have been practicing to improve their fitness, speed, and technical skills to apply on the field. Coach Hauge admires the creativity the sophomores are showing and she hopes the sophomores will show leadership towards the freshman players who are getting adjusted to playing soccer for San Bernardino Valley College.

Team captains, sophomore center back Allison Hearin (Redlands Citrus Valley) and sophomore center mid Julissa Magana (Bloomington H.S.), are aware that Coach Hauge is expecting them to keep all teammates accountable about being on the same page and putting their best effort on the field.

Another key player who is a great example of putting her best effort on the field is sophomore center mid Amairany Rosales (Rialto H.S.). She was named an All-American by the NSCAA/Continental Tire for Junior College Women's Division III and is the second All-American in SBVC Women's Soccer history. Coach Hauge states,"(Rosales) is back this year, with a focused mind and desire to achieve more titles for her passion of playing soccer."

Coach Hauge is amazed by the new players of the freshman class who were recruited to play for SBVC this year. She has witnessed her student athletes demonstrate technical skills and great fitness and is also astounded at the chemistry of combining the new players with the returning players. They are demonstrating the ability to play together with their creative tactics. It's too early, as Coach Hauge puts it, "to see what key players from the freshman class will be a tremendous help to the team."

SBVC Women's Soccer has assembled a tough 2015 schedule, including five playoff teams in the non-Conference schedule, along with their regular home-at-home series versus two Foothill Conference playoff participants. Coach Hauge's team will be traveling to Golden West on September 1 and then will be looking for revenge against last year's top seed in the 2014 CCCAA SoCal Regionals at Santiago Canyon on September 5. On September 11, the team will be at Mt. San Antonio, hosting San Diego Mesa on September 18 and then traveling to Santa Barbara City on September 29. The team will be hosting regional and Foothill Conference rivals, Rio Hondo on October 16 and Chaffey on November 10th.

If the team for this year could be described in one word it would be, "technical," commented Coach Hauge. She admires working with her student athletes and hopes she can be a great coach to them, not just in soccer but everything. "If the women are winning games, great, but if their academics are not looking good, and they are not graduating, then I wouldn't feel like I'd be doing my job as a coach." Academics are emphasized and are just as important as working hard on the soccer field to Coach Hauge. The theme for the Women Soccer team this year is, "Striving for Excellence."

"When striving for excellence good things can happen. We don't measure team success on wins or losses of games. It's a total package of combining it with the academics," said Coach Hauge. "It's about life, time of achievements, growth, getting a degree, having a productive life and a job that pays the bill."
