The San Bernardino Valley College women's basketball team put a bit of an early scare into visiting Palomar College on Wednesday night.

The Wolverines opened up an early lead, and were leading the Comets, who came into the game with only one loss on the season, by one point at the end of one quarter.

But the Comets clamped down on the Wolverines, and outscored them 13-2 in the second quarter, widened the lead in the third, and held off a late charge from SBVC to win 69-56 in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game.

SBVC (14-10, 2-3) led by as many as five points midway through the first quarter, but the Comets (24-1, 5-1) were able to wear down the Wolverines with its deeper bench. And things got worse when the Wolverines were having troubles making their shots. San Bernardino Valley was 1-for-18 from the field in the second stanza.

The Wolverines did try and make a late charge in the fourth quarter, but by that point it was too late to catch the Comets.

San Bernardino Valley's Brianne Cheatum led all scorers with 20 points, with sister Brittan adding 16 points as well. Coming off the bench, Patience Hopkins had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Palomar was led by Quinesha Vanhook with 12 points. The Comets had 10 players score in the game.
