SBVC Women’s Basketball undefeated in Conference play with win over Roadrunners, 87-77

SBVC (13-6; 5-0) continues to roll along with another impressive performance in Foothill Conference play, two starters grabbed double-doubles and the team held on for the victory over the Whittier Rio Hondo Roadrunners (10-12; 3-2), 87-77.

SBVC took a 13 point lead into halftime and built a 22 point lead with 3:58 left in the third quarter, but the Roadrunners were not done yet. Rio Hondo would take a 19-4 run starting at the beginning of the fourth quarter and roll to within 2 points, 71-69, with 5:46 left in the game. SBVC then had to claw their way back and eventually grabbed the 10 point victory.

Sophomore forward Sydney Gray (Las Vegas (NV) Centennial) led both teams with 22 points on 10 of 19 shooting, going with a double-double by adding 13 boards and a block. Sophomore forward Katrina Anthony (San Bernardino San Gorgonio) also had a double-double with 10 points on 5 of 16 shooting and leading the team with 14 boards and two steals.

Sophomore guard Ashley Carson (Upland H.S.) added 11 points on 5 of 14 shooting and sophomore forward Xiomara Moya (Riverside Ramona) came off of the bench to put up 11 points, going 5 of 6 from the free throw line. Freshman guard Briana Piggue (Riverside Arlington) led the team with six assists in the win.
