SBVC Women’s Basketball: Crebbin wins 5th COY Award, will face Marauders in SoCal Regionals

Women's Basketball head coach Susan Crebbin was named to her fifth Foothill Conference Coach of the Year award. An award bestowed upon Crebbin after guiding SBVC to its ninth Women's Basketball Foothill Conference title and its third undefeated Conference record in school history at 10-0.

The team finished the regular season with a 16-11 overall record and a 10-0 conference record, wrapping up the regular season winning 12 of their final 13 games. They were rewarded with the 18 seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

SBVC will be on the road this Wednesday, February 25th traveling to the #15 seeded Lancaster Antelope Valley Marauders with a record of 16-12, the Marauders finished the Western State Conference-South Division with a record of 9-5. The Marauders started the season 4-6, and have won 7 of their last 9 games. The Marauders finished the 2013-14 season second in the Western State Conference-South Division with a record of 9-3, with an overall record of 13-14. Antelope Valley was most recently in the playoffs in the 2011-12 season when they were a part of the Foothill Conference, entering the Southern California Regional's as the 18th seed, the Marauders lost at Pasadena City in the first round of the SoCal Playoffs 67-65. Antelope Valley is coached by Barry Green in his fifth season with the Marauders. The last time SBVC and Antelope Valley played against one another was in Lancaster on February 20, 2013, where SBVC won 65-47.

Women's basketball Sophomore guard Ashley Carson (Upland H.S.), freshman forward Sydney Gray (Las Vegas, NV Centennial) and sophomore forward Ameila Villegas (Jurupa Valley H.S.) were all named first team all-Foothill Conference.

Gray finished the regular season second in Conference, behind the Conference MVP, averaging a double-double in points per game (16.1) and rebounds per game (12.1). In addition she was very accurate as well; finishing second in Conference in field goal percentage (46.6%) and collecting 49 steals. Carson finished third overall in points scored (366) and in points per game (13.6), grabbing 161 total boards and finishing first in steals (84). In addition, Carson also led the team in assists with 88. Villegas had a good season in the middle for the Conference champs, grabbing 162 boards while blocking 22 shots and scoring 164 points.

Women's basketball freshman forward Nautica Simmons (San Bernardino Cajon) was named second team all-Foothill Conference. Simmons was the top shot blocker in the Conference with 51 blocked shots and was a solid contributor off of the bench, averaging 5.5 boards per game and 8.3 points per game.

Freshman starting guard Jasmine Hickey (Riverside Martin Luther King Jr.) was presented with an Honorable Mention.
