The San Bernardino Valley College softball team knew it had an uphill climb against conference leading College of the Desert on Friday.
And after falling behind 6-0 after three innings, the Wolverines tightened up in the fourth and fifth inning - then scored in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 6-1 game going into the sixth. That's when the wheels came off.
Desert scored 10 runs in the sixth - and even though the Wolverines were able to score three times in the bottom half of the inning - to put an early end to the game, as Desert walked away with a 16-4 win.
Angelica Melendrez and Aniya Lane were each 2-for-3 for the Wolverines, with Melendrez picking up two RBI for SBVC.
