SBVC Matches Record in 8-1 Victory

If fans arrived late to Tuesday night's men's soccer game between Glendale and San Bernardino Valley Colleges, they missed a lot of action.

The two teams combined for four goals in the games opening 11 minutes, as SBVC opened a 3-1 lead and never looked back, defeating the Vaqueros 8-1 to close out their nonconference schedule.

The eight goals in a single game matches the school record for goals in a single game. It is the fourth time in school history that SBVC has scored eight goals - the first time since an 8-1 victory over Imperial Valley in 2018.

The Wolverines opened the scoring in the fifth minute, scoring on their first shot, as Joshua Holmes was on the receiving end of David Politron's corner kick, and he put the shot home for the quick lead.

Glendale answered quickly, as Derik Stepanians was set loose on a breakaway thanks to a through pass by Samar El Batal. Stepanians dribbled around goalkeeper Adrian Munoz and put the ball into the vacated net. It was Glendale's only shot on goal for the game.

Christian Torres gave SBVC the lead back less than three minutes later. He intercepted a clearing attempt and fired it right back, putting it in the net for a 2-1 lead. David Politron followed less than two minutes later, as he scored the first of two goals on the day, finishing a centering pass from Eric Ramos to make it 3-1.

It was all SBVC from there. They had a shot go off the bottom of the crossbar and out, then had another goal called back on an offside call in the first half. Politron finished his brace in the first half, taking a pass from Jose Garcia and putting it in the net to give SBVC a 4-1 lead at half.

Politron ended the game with two goals and two assists, while Garcia had a goal and an assist in the win. The Wolverines were credited with 31 shots in the game compared to only five for Glendale. Glendale's Tigran Malumyan made 10 saves in the game on 17 shots on goal - one of SBVC's scores was an own goal.
