SBVC Offense Comes Alive in Victory

David Politron scored twice and the San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team fired 22 shots at the Pasadena City College net as the Wolverines posted a 4-1 victory Friday night inside SBVC Stadium.

SBVC outshot the Lancers 11-4 in the first half, while holding Pasadena City to zero shots on goal, as the Wolverines put pressure on the Pasadena City's defense. The Wolverines finally got their breakthrough in the 24th minute, as Jose Garcia corralled the ball near the end line about 5 yards from goal, and centered the ball to Rolando Lombera. Lombera didn't get all of the ball, but got enough to get it past goalkeeper William Southam to give SBVC a 1-0 lead at the break.

The Wolverines picked up the pressure in the second half, buzzing in the penalty area in the 52nd minute when an SBVC player was taken down for a penalty kick. Politron stepped up to the spot and buried a shot in the lower right corner to give SBVC a 2-0 lead.

Politron scored again in the 64th minute, stripping a Pasadena City defender on the left side. With nothing but the goal in front of him, he fired and put the ball inside the near post for the 3-0 advantage.

Pasadena City scored in the 70th minute off a throw in from Jose Perez to Angel Ballesteros, but SBVC's Ezequiel Soto closed the scoring in the 90th minute with a blast from about 30 yards to close the game.

Southam made 10 saves for the Lancers, while SBVC's Matthew Guzman and Adrian Munoz split the goaltending duties for the Wolverines. Guzman had zero saves in the first half, while Munoz made three in the second 45 minutes.

SBVC closes out nonconference play at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Glendale College inside SBVC Stadium.
