SBVC Men’s Soccer can’t find the back of the net in loss to Chaffey, 1-0

SBVC (7-6-8; 4-3-1) is left waiting to hear the verdict on the rest of the 2015 season after falling in the final game of the Foothill Conference season to the Rancho Cucamonga Chaffey Panthers (14-3-3; 5-2-1), 1-0.

With the win, Chaffey claims the final Foothill Conference title as both teams will be off to different Conference's beginning on July 1, 2016. Chaffey will head off to the South Coast Conference (SCC) and SBVC will move south to the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC). As a result, short of occasionally bumping into one another in the playoffs, these two teams may not see one another for a very long time. A win would have secured SBVC a playoff berth, but now the team must wait for the ruling at the SoCal seeding meeting on November 17th.

Chaffey would open up the game with a goal in the 13th minute as freshman starting goalkeeper Alexis Primera (Colton H.S.) made a dive one way then tried to crawl back in time to punch the ball away, but to no avail as the Panthers attempt crept over the goal line for a score.

This game had all of the drama of a playoff game, as it should, and the largest crowd in program history. Each side was handed a red card, Chaffey in the 59th minute and SBVC in the 77th minute, which changed the offensive arraignment for both teams. In the 18 minutes that SBVC was up a man, they took full advantage in wearing down the Panthers midfielders, and even thought they had tied the game when freshman defender Brian Rojo (Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos) darted in from the left side and poked a shot past the keeper, but the line judge had his flag up for an offsides.

SBVC would lead in three major offensive categories, which included, total shots (19), corner kicks (5) and shots on goal (8).

The NorCal/SoCal Regional Playoff Seeding Meetings will take place on November 17th to determine where SBVC will begin the post season, first round of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) SoCal Regionals begins on Saturday, November 21st at 2:00 p.m.
