SBVC Men’s Soccer overwhelms the Owls, 4-0

SBVC (1-1) leveled the table, grabbing their first win of the season and claiming victory over a very talented squad in the Glendora Citrus Owls (0-1), 4-0.

The SBVC defense was so dominant that freshman starting goal keeper Alexis Primera (Colton H.S.) did not face a single shot on goal all 90 minutes, collecting his first clean sheet of the young season. SBVC led in shots with 19, compared to the Owls five total shots and corners, with SBVC collecting four corners and Citrus with zero.

SBVC opened up the scoring in the 29th minute when freshman starting defender Michael Sanchez (Rialto H.S.) connected with freshman starting midfielder Hector Hernandez (Moreno Valley Canyon Springs) for the first goal of the afternoon.

Moments later, in the 36th minute, SBVC found the back of the net again as Hernandez found freshman forward Manny Perez (San Bernardino San Gorgonio) on a cross, giving SBVC a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

In the 60th minute, SBVC struck pay dirt a third time, as freshman midfielder James Montoya (Rialto H.S.) came off of the bench to take a shot on net. After his shot bounced off of a couple of Citrus defenders, including the keeper, sophomore starting forward Jose Castaneda (Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World) buried the shot in the back of the net, to give SBVC a 3-0 advantage.

SBVC grabbed their fourth goal of the afternoon on a penalty kick awarded to Montoya, who found the right near post to clobber his attempt past the keeper.
