Daniels' Floater Falls to Give SBVC Victory

Daniels' Floater Falls to Give SBVC Victory

It was a play that you would expect to see in a Hollywood movie. Star player has the ball with time running out in a tie game, and the fans hold their breath as he puts up a shot that bounces around the rim and backboard before falling through the hoop to win the game.

Wednesday night, the star was San Bernardino Valley College's Dominique Daniels. And the final shot - it bounced off the rim three times before falling with 1.5 seconds left, giving SBVC a come-from-behind 75-73 victory over Chaffey College in an Inland Empire Athletic Conference game.

SBVC led by seven with 41 seconds to go, but the Panthers' defense was able to clamp down on the Wolverines and convert their shots to tie the game with 9.4 seconds to go.

But the Wolverines still had Daniels. He faked to his left, then drove to the key. He rose up and floated a shot to the basket, where it bounced around before falling. SBVC was able to break up the Panthers' hail mary pass to close out the win.

And it was the capper to a second half rally for SBVC. The Wolverines trailed by 12 at the half after making only 36.7 percent of their shots in the opening 20 minutes. The Wolverines came back with a new attitude to start the second half. And it worked, as they hit on 53.1 percent of their shots - while limiting Chaffey to only 37.5 percent shooting, and forcing 10 Panther turnovers.

Daniels finished the game with 38 points, five assists and four rebounds for the Wolverines, while Aamari Smith had 20 points and eight rebounds.

Chaffey was led by Brody Davis, who had 18 points and seven rebounds. He was supported by Miguel Robles, who had 11 points, and Eulysses Foston, who had 10 points.
