The San Bernardino Valley College baseball team put up three runs in each of the final two innings Thursday, but the rally was too late as the Wolverines lost to Grossmont 11-9 at SBVC.

Andrew Aguilera got his first start since pitching a no hitter last week, and any drama of extending his hitless streak was erased early, as Kiichi Sato smacked Aguilera's first pitch into left field for a single. But Aguilera settled down and minimized any damage, giving up four runs in the opening four innings, and went into the seventh inning trailing 4-3, as the Wolverines got to Grossmont starter Bailey Roberson.

But Aguilera tired in the seventh. Heading north of 100 pitches for the game, the Griffins pounded out six hits against Aguilera in the inning, leaving the bases loaded when he was relieved by Kyle Kelley. The second batter Kelley faced, Reece Hernandez, hit the ball to the gap in right-center field, clearing the bases, helping the Griffins to score seven runs in the inning. Aguilera ended the game giving up 10 runs and 13 hits.

The Wolverines did not give up, getting to the Griffins' bullpen in the eighth and ninth innings. SBVC strung together hits and walks in the last two innings to get three runs each in the final two innings, but the rally ended with Adrian Garcia grounding into a fielders' choice to end the game.

Nathaniel Sisk was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, while Jacob Johnson was 2-for-3 with three runs on the day. Leadoff batter Jaden Burns was 2-for-6 with three RBI, and Joseph Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The two teams will try to complete their series at noon Friday at Grossmont, as the teams try to get the game played before the forecasted rain this weekend.
