SBVC To Dedicate Wall of Champions

SBVC To Dedicate Wall of Champions

In the nearly 100-year history of San Bernardino Valley College, several great athletes have passed through its doors.

Many of them have gone on to have great careers at the four-year level, while another group have gone on to play in the professional ranks around the world.

But only four have been part of a championship team in one of the United States’ five major professional team sports.

Those four will be honored as the San Bernardino Valley College Athletic Department and Foundation officially dedicate the Wall of Professional Champions at 6 p.m. Jan. 22.

The four honorees – three of whom are already enshrined in the SBVC Athletic Hall of Fame – will be recognized during the ceremony, set on the second floor of the athletics complex. Those who will be inducted are: Rich Dauer, Dino Ebel, David Lang, and Craig Newsome.

Dauer won a World Series championship as a member of the Baltimore Orioles in 1983, then was a member of the coaching staff of the Houston Astros when Houston won the title in 2017.

Ebel, the current third base coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers, was part of the coaching staff when Los Angeles won the title in 2020. He was also a member of the coaching staff for Team USA at the World Baseball Classic in 2023.

Lang ran track while at SBVC, but made his way into the National Football League. He joined the Dallas Cowboys in 1995 and was part of the Cowboys’ Super Bowl XXX victory. Lang passed away in 2005.

Newsome was a first-round pick of the Green Bay Packers, and was part of the team that won Super Bowl XXXI. He played five seasons in the NFL with the Packers and San Francisco 49ers.

Expected to be in attendance for the event are Ebel, SBVC Hall of Famer Stan Sanchez (representing Dauer), members of the Lang family, and representatives for Newsome, who currently resides in Wisconsin.

The event, which will be open to the public, will feature SBVC Hall of Famer Michael Sola as master of ceremonies. It will be inside the foyer on the second floor of the athletics complex, outside the entrance to the main gym.

Criteria for inclusion in the SBVC Wall of Champions are as follows:
